Motion Detector II plusM - Installation
Your Motion detector II[+M] does not detect certain areas? Here are possible causes:
PIR sensor:The Motion detector II [+M] uses a PIR sensor (Passive Infrared Sensor) that only detects movement in combination with a heat source. Movements behind a glass pane are therefore not detected.
Mounting height:At a mounting height of 2 meters, approximately 80 cm from the floor is blanked out (small animal filter). This blanked-out area can be influenced by the mounting height.
When mounted above 2 m, detection problems may occur for persons under 1.6 m up to 2.5 m in front of the Motion detector II [+M]. In this case, mount the Motion detector lower, e.g. at 1.8 m.
Tips for improving detection
Adjust mounting height:Check the mounting height of the Motion detector. Adjusting the height can change the blanked-out area and improve detection.
Positioning: Make sure that the Motion detector is not blocked by glass or other obstacles that could affect heat detection.
By taking these measures, you can optimize the detection performance of your Motion detector II[+M].
Mounting height and filtered area
Mounting height: At a mounting height of 2 meters, the Motion detector II [+M] always filters out the area up to 80 cm above the ground.
Adjustment of mounting height: By adjusting the mounting height, the filtered area is also changed accordingly.
Influence of sensitivity settings
Front lens: The sensitivity settings have no influence on the small animal filter of the front lens.
Lower lens: The sensitivity settings only have an influence on the small animal filter of the lower lens.
Recommendation to avoid false alarms
Covering the lower lens: It is recommended to cover the lower lens with the supplied adhesive strip if pets or robotic vacuum cleaners are present to avoid false alarms.
Through these measures, you can optimally adjust the small animal filter of your Motion detector II [+M] and reduce false alarms.
Yes, the Motion detector II [+M] has protection class IP55 and can therefore also be used outdoors.
However, do not use the Motion detector II [+M] outdoors if you want to use it in the alarm system, as false alarms can occur more easily outdoors.
Mounting options
You can mount the Bosch Smart Home Motion detector II [+M] in various ways:
Wall mounting: Mount the Motion detector II [+M] on a wall. The recommended height is between 1.8 m and 2.2 m.
Corner mounting: Mount the Motion detector II [+M] in a corner, also at a height of 1.8 m to 2.2 m.

Notes on placement
Shelf placement:Placing the Motion detector II [+M] on a shelf is not recommended. If this is nevertheless necessary, ensure that the Motion detector is also placed at a height of 1.8 m to 2.2 m.

If your lamp, which is controlled via the Motion Detector II [+M], is not turning on, please check the following settings:
Bosch Smart Home App:
Go to "More".
Select "Devices".
Select "In-wall switch" and then the corresponding device.
Make sure that "Light" is selected under "Purpose of use".
This setting causes the in-wall switch to be treated like a light and integrated into the "Motion light" and "Presence simulation" services.

Favorites:
You can control the in-wall switch under your "Favorites" via the "Room light" tile together with other lights in the room.
Through these checks and settings, you ensure that your light can be controlled correctly via the Motion Detector II [+M].
The Motion detector II [+M] monitors the following areas:
Side angle:90° to the sides.
Depth: 8 m in depth.
Extended angle: Between 8 m and 13 m, an angle of 70° is still detected.
Safety-relevant applications
For safety-relevant applications, such as the alarm system, please consider a reduced detection distance of 8 m.
Crawl-under protection
Depending on whether the crawl-under protection is active, movements below the motion detector are also detected within the specified angle.
By proper placement and consideration of these detection areas, you ensure that your Motion detector II [+M] functions optimally.
Recommended mounting height
Mount your Smart Home Motion detector II [+M] at a height between 1.8 m and 2.2 m.
Ideal placement
Passage areas:Choose a location where passage is likely.
Avoiding sources of interference:Make sure that there are no fans, radiators or windows in the monitoring area.
Placing it on a shelf is not recommended. If you do, the Motion detector II [+M] should also be at a height between 1.80 m and 2.20 m.

EN 50131-2-2 Certification
Under the following conditions, the Motion detector [+M] is EN 50131-2-2 certified:
Tamper contact: The tamper contact must be active.
Sensitivity level:The sensitivity level must be set to high.
Mounting height:The Motion detector II [+M] must be mounted at a height of 1.8 meters.
These requirements ensure the safety and reliability of the Motion detector in accordance with the EN 50131-2-2 standard.
Unfortunately, Bosch Smart Home cannot influence how the Motion detector II [+M] is displayed in the Matter app. Nor can we influence which automations or scenarios are available for the product. In this case, please contact the manufacturer of your Matter controller.
Make sure you do not have any problematic objects within range of your Motion detector II [+M] (for example, a fan or radiator).

The Motion detector sends a signal to your Smart Home Controller. Here, for example, the following actions can be triggered via the "Alarm System" service:
- You receive a notification on your mobile device or tablet.
- The siren of the Smoke alarm II sounds.
- Connected Philips Hue lights flash red.
This can achieve a deterrent effect.
Furthermore, the Motion detector II [+M] can serve as a trigger for scenarios and automations. It can also be integrated into the "Motion Light" service to control lighting.

Google Home
The Motion detector II [+M] currently does not transmit any information to Google Home.
To check the function of your Motion detector II [+M], please open your Smart Home App. In the device management, please select the corresponding Motion detector II [+M] and click on "Test motion detector".
If the test is negative, please note the instructions in the Bosch Smart Home App as well as in the operating/installation manual.
Please note that the mounting height can have a significant influence on the detection range.
Temperature range
Operating temperature: The Motion detector II [+M] functions between -20°C and +60°C.
Functional limitations
Colder temperatures: The PIR sensor becomes more sensitive at lower temperatures.
Higher temperatures: At temperatures above 30°C, the sensor becomes less sensitive.Limitations are to be expected from 30°C onwards.
The Motion detector II [+M] can be operated within the specified temperature range, however, sensitivity may vary depending on temperature.
Frontal movements: Persons moving directly in front of the Motion detector II [+M] (up to approx. 2 m in front of the detector) may not be detected depending on size and environmental conditions.
Detection range
Up to 8 meters: The detector captures movements at an angle of 90°.
8 to 13 meters: The detection angle is reduced to 70°.
The Motion detector offers reliable detection within these ranges and angles.
The anti-theft protection is a security function of the Motion detector II [+M], which sends a signal to the controller and thus also to the connected smartphones when the device is forcibly removed from the wall/corner. "Warning: The Motion detector has been removed from the installation location."
Make sure that the Motion detector II [+M] is within range of your Smart Home Controller. During installation, you can check the connection quality at your desired mounting location in the Bosch Smart Home App.
If problems with integration persist, please carry out the following steps if necessary:
1. Check in the settings of the Bosch Smart Home App whether the version is up to date. If not: Please update the version to the latest version.
2. Carry out the installation again. To do this, please check whether the device is available under the menu item "Devices" and remove it if necessary.
3. Perform a reset before reinstalling. To do this, press and hold the mode button of the Motion detector II [+M] when reinserting the battery compartment until the LED of the Motion detector II [+M] flashes orange. Release briefly and press the button again until the LED lights up green. Then wait briefly and follow the connection instructions again.
4. Please check whether the batteries are inserted correctly.
5. When pairing to a Bosch Smart Home Controller, make sure that the Motion detector II [+M] communicates via Zigbee.

Certification
The Motion detector II [+M] is certified (under certain conditions) according to EN 50131-2-2 (For more information, please refer to the operating instructions).
Benefits
Subsidies and insurance coverage: These benefits are only possible if the control unit (e.g. Bosch Smart Home Controller II) is also certified. Currently, the Bosch Smart Home Controller II is not certified.
Matter: When using a certified Matter controller, subsidies and insurance coverage may be possible.
The certification of the Motion detector II [+M] alone does not provide direct benefits regarding subsidies and insurance coverage. These benefits depend on the certification of the entire system, especially the controller.
After a detected motion, no further motion is detected for 30 seconds.
Small animal filter: Your Bosch Smart Home Motion detector II [+M] always filters out 80 cm above the floor (at a mounting height of 2 m). The filter can be influenced by the mounting height.
Crawl-under protection: The crawl-under protection is an additional lens on the underside of the Motion detector II [+M], which ensures that movements below the detector are also detected. If you have pets or a vacuum robot, for example, you can disable this lens with a supplied adhesive pad, as the small animal filter does not apply to this lens.
If your Motion detector II [+M] is displayed as unreachable in the Bosch Smart Home App, please note the following points and solutions:
Distance:The distance between the Smart Home Controller and the Motion detector II [+M] could be too great. Try placing the Motion detector II [+M] closer to the Controller.
Interfering products:Other electronic devices could interfere with the connection. Check whether there are interfering devices nearby and remove them if necessary.
Minimum distance:Make sure that the Motion detector II [+M] is installed at least 1 meter away from the Smart Home Controller. Placement too close can also affect the connection.
By taking these measures, you can improve the connection between your Motion detector II [+M] and the Smart Home Controller.
Residue-free removal: Yes, the adhesive pad can be removed without leaving residue.
Reuse: The adhesive pad can be used once. However, it is not suitable for being removed and reused multiple times.
The brightness of the orientation light is measured in lux and varies depending on the distance:
1 meter distance: 1.5 lux
0.5 meter distance: 6.5 lux
0.25 meter distance: 21 lux
Purpose of the third adhesive pad
The adhesive pad with the rounded shape is an optional cover for the lower lens (crawl-under protection) of the Motion detector II [+M].
Application
Pets and robot vacuums: If you have pets or a robot vacuum, we recommend covering the crawl-under protection with this adhesive pad. This helps to avoid false alarms.
General information
Motion Detector II plusM - General Information
Unfortunately, Bosch Smart Home cannot influence how the Motion detector II [+M] is displayed in the Matter app, nor which automations or scenarios are available for the product. In this case, please contact the manufacturer of your Matter controller.
The Motion detector II [+M] switches on either the integrated orientation light or connected Philips Hue lamps in the same room when motion is detected.
For this purpose, the light sensitivity of the Motion detector II [+M] can be individually adjusted. After the corresponding darkness occurs, the light sensor in combination with a detected movement of the motion sensor II [+M] triggers the function.
The light can be switched off at time intervals. You have the option to set different time intervals here. In addition, the brightness (1 to 100%) of the selected lamps can be adjusted.
When the Bosch Smart Home Motion Detector II [+M] is paired with a Bosch Smart Home Controller, an automatic switch of the wireless standard from Thread to Zigbee takes place during pairing via Bluetooth. For this, Bluetooth must be enabled on the smartphone being used.
Currently, no additional colors are planned.
By default, the Motion detector II [+M] is in Matter mode (via Thread). If you want to pair the device via Zigbee to a Bosch Smart Home Controller, the installation wizard of the Bosch Smart Home App will ask for Bluetooth permission to automatically switch the device to Zigbee mode.
However, if you want to manually switch your Motion detector II [+M] from Matter mode to Zigbee or vice versa, please follow these steps:
1. Press and hold the button on the device for at least 5 seconds.
2. Wait until the status LED of the Motion detector II [+M] starts blinking.
- If the LED blinks orange, the switch from Matter to Zigbee mode was successful.
- If the LED blinks blue, the switch from Zigbee to Matter mode was successful.
With these simple steps, you can change the wireless standard of your device as needed. If the Motion detector II [+M] is already paired to a controller, it must be reset to factory settings in order to switch the wireless standard.
Are the batteries in your Motion detector II [+M] draining faster than expected? Here are possible reasons:
Alkaline batteries: The stated battery life of less than 2 years refers to alkaline batteries and was tested using a Bosch Smart Home Controller. The integrated orientation light was taken into account with a usage of 1 minute per day.
Third-party systems:When using the Motion detector II [+M] in systems such as Apple HomeKit, Matter, or other third-party systems, battery life may vary significantly. This is due to the third-party's polling rate, which Bosch Smart Home cannot influence.
Automations and scenarios:The use of automations or scenarios can also reduce battery life.
Tips for extending battery life
Use of Bosch Smart Home Controller: Use the Motion detector II [+M] with a Bosch Smart Home Controller to achieve optimal battery life.
Reducing the use of the orientation light: Minimize the use of the integrated orientation light to preserve the batteries.
Reviewing automations: Review your automations and scenarios to reduce unnecessary queries.
By taking these measures, you can extend the battery life of your Motion detector II [+M].
The Bosch Smart Home Motion Detector II [+M] uses the Thread radio protocol and not WiFi for transmitting Matter commands. In this case, you additionally need a Thread Border Router.

### Bosch Smart Home Controller: Communication Standards
The Bosch Smart Home controller currently uses the Zigbee wireless standard to communicate with Bosch Smart Home [+M] devices.
#### Important Information:
- **Not a Matter Controller**: The Bosch Smart Home controller does not support the Matter standard.
- **No Thread Communication**: The controller does not use the Thread standard.
- **Limitations with Third-Party Devices**: Matter or Thread devices from third-party manufacturers cannot be directly connected to the Bosch Smart Home controller.
This information helps you better understand the compatibility of your Bosch Smart Home controller with other devices.
Influence of Bosch Smart Home:
- Bosch Smart Home only provides the updates for the Bosch Smart Home [+M] devices.

Troubleshooting steps
Restart Matter Controller:
- Restart your Matter Controller.
- Often the updates are reassigned to the connected end devices after a restart.
Reset device to factory settings:
- Reset the Bosch Smart Home [+M] device to factory settings.
- Then re-pair the device.
Check the network connection:
- Make sure that your network is stable and there are no connection problems.

If you want to manually switch your Bosch Smart Home [+M] device from Zigbee to Thread or vice versa, please follow these steps:
1. Press and hold the control button on the device for at least 5 seconds.

The [+M] devices use the Thread wireless standard as default. But don't worry if you want to pair the [+M] device via Zigbee to a Bosch smart Home Controller:
- The switch from Thread to Zigbee happens automatically during pairing. So you don't need to worry about the change. Only Bluetooth needs to be enabled on your mobile device.
- An automatic switch in the other direction, i.e. from Zigbee to Thread, would not have been possible automatically.
In summary, using Thread as standard offers flexibility and convenience for the Matter system, without any disadvantages for the Bosch smart Home system.
Using 230V Thread devices:
- Bosch Smart Home [+M] devices that are directly connected to the 230V mains extend the respective wireless network with which they communicate.
- These devices act as repeaters and strengthen the Thread network (mesh).
- When you control the [+M] device with a Matter controller via Thread, the Thread range is extended by the Thread network (mesh).
How to extend the range of your Thread network
Position 230V devices strategically:
- Ensure that 230V devices are evenly distributed throughout your home to guarantee optimal network coverage.
Update the software:
- Make sure that both your Bosch Smart Home devices and the Matter controller are running the latest software version.
If your Bosch Smart Home [+M] devices have very high battery consumption, this may be due to the current limitations of Matter 1.1:
No "standby" mode in Matter 1.1:
- Matter 1.1 currently does not support a "standby" mode for devices integrated into a Matter Controller.
- This leads to higher battery consumption.
Influence of Bosch Smart Home:
- Bosch Smart Home has no influence on this circumstance.

### Pairing [+M] Devices to the Bosch Smart Home Controller II
You can easily pair [+M] devices via Zigbee to your Bosch Smart Home Controller II. Follow these simple steps:
1. **Enable Bluetooth**: Make sure that Bluetooth on your mobile device is turned on.
2. **Open App**: Launch the Bosch Smart Home App.
3. **Add Device**:
- Go to "More".
- Select "Devices".
- Tap "Add Device".

- Despite the [+M] marking, the device can still be paired with the Bosch Smart Home Controller via Zigbee.
In summary, when you see a device with the [+M] symbol, it means that it works with the Matter standard and you can connect it with a compatible (Thread-enabled) controller. At the same time, compatibility with the Bosch Smart Home Controller via Zigbee remains. However, you must decide whether to integrate the device into a Matter system or into a Bosch Smart Home system.
If you want to operate your [+M] product in a Matter system, you need the following components:
Thread Border Router:The [+M] product communicates via Thread in Matter mode, not via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. A Thread Border Router is therefore required.
Matter controller:This controls the communication and management of Matter devices. Often the Matter controller is also a Thread Border Router, but this is not always the case. Check this in advance.
Use in the Bosch Smart Home System
If you want to use your [+M] product in the Bosch Smart Home System, you need the Bosch Smart Home controller.
