Can the Smart Home Controller be accessed via a VPN connection (encrypted, tunnel)?
We do not support remote access to the Smart Home Controller via custom VPNs. Neither under Android nor under iOS. If it does work in a certain constellation, then it is a coincidence and is not further supported by us. We have also not tested anything regarding custom VPNs. Note: Custom VPNs describes here solutions that the customer can set up and manage on his hardware e.g. Fritzbox, Raspberry Pi etc. to access his home network while on the road. This does not refer to commercial VPN providers and pseudo-VPN providers (e.g. Samsung: "secure WLAN"). When using commercial VPN providers, remote access must always be activated in the Smart Home app if you want to access your Smart Home controller while on the move.
What should I know about remote access to my system (Smart Home System, Smart Home Controller)?
Two important points you should keep in mind: If remote access from a remote location (i.e. outside the WLAN in which your smart home system is installed) is deactivated, it is not possible to reactivate remote access from outside the home WLAN. Remote access is always possible, regardless of whether your smartphone is currently communicating via mobile data or WLAN. Problems can only arise if the non-domestic WLAN has the same name (SSID)as the WLAN in which your smart home system is installed.
What happens if the Smart Home Controller is disconnected from the power supply for a short time (plug pulled, power failure)?
If the controller is briefly disconnected from the power, there is nothing more you can do. As soon as the power supply is restored, the controller connects itself and re-establishes contact with all connected components. In case of a power failure, the time is buffered, the buffer is about 4 hours. Therefore, if an Internet connection is not immediately available after power is restored and the power failure is no more than 4 hours in the past, your existing automation systems, if any, will continue to function.

Can the purchase of the Bosch Smart Home System be supported by the KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau) program 455E?
The basis for funding is the DIN VDE V 0826-1 standard. Unfortunately, we currently do not yet meet all requirements of this standard. In addition, it must be taken into account that a KfW subsidy according to the specifications of DIN VDE V 0826-1 can only be granted if the hazard warning system is planned, installed and maintained by a specialist company. If the system is installed by the user himself (as is possible with the Bosch Smart Home System), this contradicts the standard and is not eligible for funding. Please note that KfW funding is only available in Germany.

Where can I find the IP address of my Smart Home Controller (home network, local)?
In a few cases, you may be prompted to enter the IP address of the smart home controller during installation of the smart home controller. You can obtain this by inserting a blank USB stick into the USB port of your Smart Home Controller and waiting a short time. Then you will find a text file called "shc-status" on the USB stick. The IP address is stored in this file (under the field "IP address:"). Please note that the USB stick is emptied by the Smart Home Controller before the text file mentioned is written to it. So please make sure that you have no important data on the USB stick or use an empty USB stick. You can also find the IP address of the Smart Home Controller in the settings of your home network router.
Does the Smart Home Controller establish an Internet connection even without remote access (data protection, data exchange)?
The Bosch Smart Home Controller, and thus the entire Bosch Smart Home System, requires an Internet connection at regular intervals for unhindered use. This is required to establish the time and the connection to the Bosch Smart Home Update Server to synchronize the time and check for new updates. The Smart Home controller only sends its identification number (ID), the version number of its currently installed software and the country in which the Smart Home controller is located. No other data is transmitted.
What do the lights on the Smart Home Controller mean (LED)?
The Smart Home Controller is equipped with three control LEDs: The power LED, the LAN LED and the cloud LED. Depending on whether you have enabled or disabled remote access, only the power LED and the LAN LED or the cloud LED as well should stay lit up in white. If this is not the case at any point and your system is not behaving properly, wait for a short time or attempt to briefly disconnect the Smart Home Controller – and your router as well if required – from the power supply. After a short wait, reconnect the Smart Home Controller and the router to the power supply so that a new link is established. The other flashing combinations can be found in the of the controller.
How long is the wireless range of the Smart Home Controller?
The radio range of the Smart Home Controller is set to about 30 meters (inside a building) or 100 meters (outdoor), similar to the WLAN signal of your router. This may vary due to local conditions. Among other things, reinforced concrete ceilings or underfloor heating can impair the radio signal. Please make sure that your Smart Home Controller is positioned as centrally as possible in your household. For an optimal connection of the Smart Home products to the controller, they should be at least one meter away from the Smart Home Controller.
