All German federal states have a smoke detector obligation, which will be implemented nationwide by 2020 at the latest. Simply follow the instructions in the app. Alternatively, you can integrate further Twinguards at a later time via the app. Please follow the instructions under "Menu -> Room information -> Add new Twinguard".

Where in my home do I place my gateway?

To ensure optimum radio contact with your Twinguards, place your gateway as centrally as possible in your home. The range of your gateway varies depending on the type of building, outside buildings on at least 100 m outdoor area and inside buildings typically up to the next floor. Zigbee radio connections have a very similar range to WLAN, typically 15 meters per floor. You should position your gateway as far away from the WLAN router as possible to ensure optimum radio connections to your Twinguard. You can ensure this e.g. by using the maximum distance of the supplied Ethernet cable from the WLAN router to the gateway (max. 1 meter). Alternatively you can increase the distance even further by using e.g. Powerline Communication Adapters (Ethernet via home power network) or WLAN Repeaters with Ethernet connection in your home, via which you can also connect your gateway to your router and thus integrate it into your home network.

What is the range between gateway and Twinguard?

The wireless range of the Twinguard Eco system is very similar to the W-LAN signal of your router. This typically reaches the next floor within the house or outside a building (open-air section) up to 100m. This can vary due to local/structural conditions. Among other things, reinforced concrete ceilings or underfloor heating can impair the radio signal. Please make sure that your gateway is positioned as centrally as possible in your household.

Bosch Smart Home Twinguard - Smoke detector functions

According to which standards is the Bosch Smart Home Twinguard certified?

The Bosch Smart Home Twinguard is certified according to the European standard EN 14604:2005 + AC:2008 and is therefore a reliable lifesaver in your home.

What is the difference between smoke alarms with Dual-Ray technology and conventional smoke alarms?

Smoke detectors with Dual-Ray technology reliably protect thousands of industrial buildings such as shopping centres, office complexes or airports worldwide every day. The high-precision technology reliably detects even the smallest smoke particles. Dual-Ray technology works with two LEDs in the blue and infrared range. The result is highly reliable fire detection with the lowest possible number of false alarms.

Dual-Ray technology has an ISP algorithm (ISP = Intelligent Signaling Processing) based on Bosch's decades of experience in the field of professional fire detection.

Is there a smoke alarm obligation in my federal state?

All German federal states have a smoke alarm obligation, which will be implemented nationwide by 2020 at the latest. Detailed information on the regulations in the individual federal states can be found here. In Austria there are regulations for new buildings, conversions and existing buildings in almost all federal provinces. Often these regulations even apply to all common rooms in your home.

Why should I use a smoke detector?

In case of doubt, a smoke alarm can save lives. In Germany alone, there are about 6,000 serious burns every year. Approximately 80% of all fire accidents occur in private homes. About 70% of affected burn victims are surprised during sleep at night. A smoke alarm detects and reports fire hazards at an early stage and can thus prevent accidents and injuries.

What is the advantage of the automated call?

In the event of a fire, a call gateway will automatically call you on the number you have stored. A call on a mobile device represents the highest possible escalation level in the event of a fire. We will only call you in the event of a fire. After the call you will get further details about the Twinguard App.

During the initial commissioning I select a fire department number via my country entry (e.g. for Germany: 112). Will the fire brigade be called directly in the event of a fire?

No. The fire department is not called directly by the Bosch Smart Home Twinguard. A call to the fire brigade must always be made manually via you. You can call the fire department directly from the app in the event of a fire. The valid emergency number for the respective country selection is automatically stored.

What is the heartbeat function?

Your Bosch Smart Home Twinguard continuously carries out a self-diagnosis, if something is wrong, you will be informed. The Twinguard virtually checks its own heartbeat - so you can always be sure that your Twinguard smoke detector is working reliably. Up to three times a day, from 19:00 to 01:00 the following day, you can also see this "Hearbeat". This is indicated by a blue light pattern on the surrounding LED strip. A brightness sensor activates the heartbeat at a defined light transition from light to dark. If, for example, you switch off the light in a room when leaving the room or before falling asleep, your Twinguard will show you that it continues to pay attention. If a visual heartbeat has been performed on the detector, the next visual heartbeat will be performed on the detector no earlier than one hour later and no more than three times a day. You can also deactivate this visual function via the Bosch Twinguard App. Don't worry, the self-diagnosis will continue.

What does the pre-alarm function mean?

The pre-alarm can be used to draw your attention to an incipient fire by means of a signal with reduced volume. It supports you in taking early measures to eliminate the cause of the pre-alarm and thus avoid a main alarm as far as possible. In the event of a pre-alarm, no automated call is made. You can also deactivate this function via the Bosch Twinguard App.

What does the night mode function mean?

The Twinguard has the night mode function. Here, non-urgent information such as an incipient battery warning is postponed to the next day. Thus, the detector does not disturb you unnecessarily at night with a battery warning that can be postponed to the daytime hours. Don't worry, the battery still has enough power at this time to move the warning without hesitation. In addition, your Bosch Twinguard App informs you about the imminent battery change. So you have enough time to buy new batteries in time.

The night mode is active from 20:00 to 08:00 on the following day.

How long is the battery life?

The Twinguard App clearly displays the battery status of all detectors. This can be found in the menu -> Rooms. The typical battery life is two years.

If the battery capacity of a detector drops below a critical level, you will also receive a push message and a red info bar will appear on your Home screen. This info bar is not hidden until the battery has been replaced.

Information about the test alarm

With the Twinguard, you can carry out a test alarm conventionally via the control button on the detector or via the app. In this case, the alarm is always performed at a reduced volume for only one Twinguard. If the test result is positive, a blue light is displayed on the rotating LED strip for about one second.

We recommend to carry out monthly test alarms. If the test alarm via the app is not successful, please perform a test alarm on the detector manually using the control button. If this is also not successful, please contact our customer service immediately.

It may be necessary to replace the device immediately. Please note that a test alarm can only be triggered via the Twinguard App if you are in the same W-Lan network with your smartphone that your Twinguard is connected to. Another note: After a test alarm has been executed, the detector is muted for 10 minutes and indicates this by the flashing of the red LED. You can therefore use this function proactively if you suspect an imminent false alarm, e.g. if you expect a lot of smoke or water vapour in the kitchen while cooking. The EN14604 standard, which applies to smoke detectors, is based on one test alarm per week.

What is the advantage of the different sensitivities depending on where I installed the Twinguard?

During commissioning, your Twinguard is always assigned the optimum sensitivity for a room. The Twinguard has three different sensitivity levels (low, medium, high) which are automatically adjusted according to the selected room.
For example, a bedroom or children's room has a very high sensitivity, which reports a fire quickly and reliably in the event of a fire. Similarly, a kitchen is assigned a lower sensitivity, since many disturbance variables can occur here, e.g. due to cooking (water vapour).

Can the Bosch Smart Home Twinguard also be used as a carbon monoxide warning device?

At present, the Bosch Smart Home Twinguard can only be used as a smoke detector and for air quality measurement, but not as a carbon monoxide detector. The current range of functions does not include so-called fire gas detection.

Bosch Smart Home Twinguard - Air Quality Monitoring

How is air quality measured?

The Bosch Smart Home Twinguard continuously measures air quality. Temperature, relative humidity and air purity (detection of volatile organic compounds) are taken into account. Put simply, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are things that you can perceive with your sense of smell.

How does the Bosch Smart Home Twinguard calculate optimum air quality?

A specially developed algorithm analyzes the measured individual parameters and interprets them optically as corresponding leaf symbolism for the room in question. The Twinguard App has an optimal air quality range for different room types, e.g. bedrooms, based on scientific studies. These are used as references.

Why is my air quality data stored?

Your air quality data is stored in the backend of your user account in the Bosch Cloud so you can access it anytime, anywhere. With the help of your air quality history, you can derive patterns for the future to ensure a healthy indoor climate in advance.

What happens if the optimum range is exceeded or not reached?

The Twinguard App notifies you and gives you recommendations if the air quality in a room is outside the optimum range. These notifications can be activated and deactivated. These are deactivated in the factory setting. The notification intervals can also be adjusted manually.

Where can I get further information on air quality?

If you're still unsure, please contact Amazon Customer Service directly for expert advice on supported and Amazon-specific devices regarding the Alexa voice control service.

Where can I buy the devices that allow me to use the "Alexa" voice control service?

Devices such as the smart loudspeaker Amazon "Echo" or the smart display Amazon "Show" or one of the many other Amazon devices that support the voice control service "Alexa" can be purchased via one of Amazon's numerous sales channels or the established Amazon web shop.

If you are unsure, please contact Amazon Customer Service directly for expert advice on the "Alexa" voice control service or purchase advice on compatible Amazon devices.

Which Amazon devices do I have to purchase in order to operate my Bosch Smart Home components via "Alexa"?

Currently, the Bosch Smart Home components functions already available for the "Alexa" voice control service can be controlled via most of the devices offered by Amazon in your country that support the "Alexa" voice control service.

Please note: Only those functions can be controlled which can also be executed with the device via which you trigger voice control. On an Amazon Echo Dot, for example, you cannot activate the video stream of the camera because the "Echo Dot" itself does not have a video-capable display.

Which Bosch Smart Home components can already be operated via "Alexa" today?

In addition to your scenarios, you can control the following Bosch Smart Home devices directly via ""Alexa":

  • 360° indoor camera
  • Eyes Outdoor Camera
  • radiator thermostat
  • adapter
  • light control
  • Roller shutter control/li>

Does "Alexa" always listen in and if so, how can I turn it off?!

When the respective devices supporting Amazon's "Alexa" voice control service are turned on, "Alexa" actually listens all the time to capture the commands. In order to protect your privacy, you can switch off the "ears" of "Alexa" in the form of the built-in microphone on most devices directly or, if you want to be absolutely sure, disconnect them from the power supply via the Bosch Smart Home Smart Plug or simply by pulling the plug.

Final you can deactivate the voice control via Alexa by removing the respective "Skills" from your Amazon user account.

What do I have to consider when connecting Bosch Smart Home devices to "Alexa"?

You need a Bosch ID in the Bosch Cloud (e.g. your existing Bosch Smart Camera access) as well as your camera (360° or Eyes), which should already be installed and functional. You will also need a valid Amazon account.
The connection itself can be executed via all end devices where you can access the Amazon web shop or the corresponding app.

Important: If you are using the Amazon Alexa App, make sure you are using the latest version. Before installation, check if there is an update for the app in the respective appstore and install it. Otherwise, the installation process may be unnecessarily disrupted and must be restarted.

Which Amazon "Alexa" products can I use to display the camera image?

This will be possible via the Amazon "Fire TV" Stick and the Amazon "Fire TV" Box. Also the Amazons "Show" and "Spot" are able to display the pictures or the live stream of your Bosch Smart Home Cameras.

You can only initiate the display of the pictures or the video stream directly via the voice remote control of the respective Amazon terminal device, since Amazon does not support the function to pass commands to a Fire TV component via e.g.: an "Echo Dot".

Important note: All devices supported by "Alexa" that do not have a display cannot display video streams or images and "Alexa" gives direct feedback that cameras are not supported by this device.

What are the minimum system requirements for unrestricted use of the full functional scope of "Alexa" in connection with Bosch Smart Home products?

When using our Bosch Smart Camera products, we recommend an Internet connection with a stable speed of at least 6 Mbit downstream and 1 Mbit upstream. In all other cases it is recommended to take note of and implement the system requirements stated on the respective packaging of our components.

What do I need to watch the video stream of my Bosch Smart Home Camera on a television via "Alexa"?

For this you need your installed and functional Bosch Smart Home Camera, an Amazon "FireTV" product with the corresponding "voice remote control", which supports the "Alexa" voice control service, and a video-enabled terminal connected to the "FireTV" product. A stable Internet connection with a speed of at least 6 MBit Down and 1 MBit Upstream is required.

After you have assigned "Alexa" the skill of the Bosch Smart Home Camera via your Amazon user account, you can access the corresponding stream via the command "Alexa, show me the image of the (name) camera".

Alexa doesn't recognize my camera name or my camera commands or almost never, with another person this works very well. Example: "courtyard door" is understood by me as "to the power of four", or "buy yourself".

Even the intelligent voice control service "Alexa" still needs to learn something at some points. Amazons "Alexa" slowly adjusts to the user, after a few successful calls, Alexa recognizes the camera name increasingly better.

A few small tips might also help:

  • Speak more slowly and with a rather deep voice, with clear pauses between the words and please in High German or without dialect colouring.
  • What Alexa has understood can be read in the course of the conversation. To do this, call up the menu item "-> Settings -> "Alexa Account" -> "History" in the Amazon Alexa App.

The camera's connection via the Amazon user account failed. Adding the "skill" failed due to entering the user data of my Bosch ID! What can I do? I don't know.

You probably did not create your Bosch ID until you were already in the Amazon user account when assigning the skill OR you have not yet logged in to the Bosch Smart Camera App. In both cases, we recommend the following procedure:

  • Please create your Bosch ID first.
  • Then log in to the Smart Camera App and link the skill in your Amazon user account to "Alexa".

You will integrate Amazon Alexa as a partner in your system. How do you deal with the subject of data protection and privacy and how can this be agreed?

At Bosch Smart Home, data protection and security and the associated user rights have top priority, which is why Bosch Smart Home ensures maximum security. This still applies to Bosch Smart Home and our solutions. We are intensively dealing with customer needs and have discussed with numerous potential Smart Home customers. Language is an interesting control option in the smart home that is enjoying growing popularity. We also want to meet this customer need with the option of controlling the Bosch Smart Home System via Amazon Alexa. Each user can therefore decide for himself whether he wants to use the advantage of the Alexa voice service and thus agree to the privacy and data protection conditions of Amazon. For customers who need a high level of data protection/privacy, Bosch Smart Home with the Smart Home App, the universal switch and the scenario manager for control (without using voice control) is still the right choice.

Background info:
In order to control Bosch Smart Home components via Amazon Alexa using voice commands (so-called skills), the user must connect the relevant Smart Home components to one of the Amazon devices that support the "Alexa" voice control service. As part of the pairing process, Bosch obtains consent for the user to agree to the transfer of any personal data to Amazon. Bosch has no influence on the associated processing of personal data by Amazon. It is subject to Amazon's responsibility and terms of use and data protection.

When will I also be able to control the other Bosch Smart Home products via Amazon's "Alexa"?

Currently, you can already operate selected functions of the Bosch Smart Home indoor camera 360 and the outdoor camera Eyes via Alexa as well as some of our Bosch Smart Home System components. We are working flat out to ensure that in the future you will also be able to access many other functions of the numerous components of your Bosch Smart Home System via "Alexa". We will continue to expand the range of functions in the future.

How do I activate Amazon's "Alexa" for my Bosch Smart Home camera?

To do this, you must assign the appropriate "skill" to your Alexa product via your Amazon user account. Please keep in mind that not every Amazon product supports the full functionality of the device controlled by "Alexa". Please remember to let Alexa intial search for new devices after adding another device.

How do I disable Amazon's 'Alexa' again?

To do this, you must remove the corresponding "skill" from your Amazon user account. For a temporary deactivation of Alexa, the corresponding control elements on the devices supported by "Alexa" or the temporary disconnection from the power - for example via a Bosch Smart Plug - are often sufficient.

Can I operate my products even if Alexa is switched off or has no function?

Even if "Alexa takes a break" you can still operate and use your devices to their full extent via the respective apps.

Why can't I turn off the camera via "alexa"?

This has been deliberately implemented in such a way that even potentially unwanted "guests" could otherwise elude a security-relevant recording by simply "Alexa, switch off all cameras" before entering a room.

How do I prevent Amazon's "Alexa" from accidentally triggering any random commands from afar?

Basically, "Alexa" can only be controlled from a distance via the corresponding Amazon "Alexa App". Voice commands are only accepted to a limited extent, the functionality is then comparable to that of an Amazon "Echo Dot" device. In this respect, operating errors are only possible to a limited extent and only with direct access via the unlocked mobile device. If you want to avoid this risk, you can either disconnect the Amazon devices at home from the power supply or from the Internet or secure your mobile device against unauthorized access by third parties.

I have heard that I can also watch the camera picture of friends or neighbours about Alexa. Why does it make sense?

The following scenarios would be conceivable when using the display of video streams from third-party cameras:

  • They share a camera, for example: Her parents. Her parents can view the stream and clips of this camera in their app. Your parents can also watch the stream via Fire TV.
  • Friends and neighbours: ...are away for a while, during this time you can run the camera on your TV and check that e.g: Children, pets or craftsmen only do what they are supposed to do.
  • Grandparents have a grandson TV and can get in touch with the children more often. Privacy is always maintained, as only the owner of the camera has the function to set the camera to "Privacy Mode".

An error occurs when linking the camera to the Amazon account: "An error occurred when linking to Bosch Smart Home. Please try again later" What can I do? I don't know.

The reasons for this can lie in the following points:

  • You may not have set up any Alexa devices in your Amazon account yet.
Solution: Please first put your Bosch Smart Home Camera into operation and set it up using the Bosch Smart Camera App.
  • After that please try again, there was a change in your e.g. terms and conditions: Smart Camera App that you have not yet accepted.
Solution: Please open the Bosch Smart Camera App and confirm the change of the terms of use. After that you will be able to use your Bosch Smart Camera as well as the "Alexa" voice control service for the camera again without any restrictions.
  • A country setting has not been made and "Alexa" does not know in which language "she should listen".
Solution: Please enter your "home country" in your Amazon user account (Amazon.de-> My Amazon -> My Content & Devices).

Why can't I hear a sound when I display the camera image on an Amazon "FireTV" product via "Alexa"?

At the moment we only support the forwarding of video data via the Amazon "FireTV" products. The transmission of audio data is not desired by Amazon. It is not possible to specify a period for realization.

How can I connect the Bosch Smart Home System with "Alexa"?

Activate in your Bosch Smart Home App under Settings => Privacy => External accounts Amazon Alexa. Then activate the Bosch Smart Home Skill in Amazon Alexa and search for available devices. All compatible Bosch Smart Home System devices will then be available here.

Alexa doesn't recognize my room or component names or almost never, it works very well for another person. Example: "courtyard door" is understood by me as "to the power of four", or "buy yourself".

Even the intelligent voice control service "Alexa" still needs to learn something at some points. Amazon's "Alexa" slowly adapts to the user, after a few successful calls, Alexa recognizes the corresponding names increasingly better.

A few small tips might also help:

  • Speak more slowly and with a rather deep voice, with clear pauses between the words and please without dialect coloring.
  • What Alexa has understood, you can read in the course. To do this, call up the menu item "-> Settings -> "Alexa Account" -> "History" in the Amazon Alexa App.

Do I need a different skill for Bosch Smart Home System and cameras?

Actually, yes. You need the Bosch Smart Camera Skill for your cameras and the Bosch Smart Home Skill for the system. Note that if you add new products later, you will need to restart the Amazon Alexa App search for new devices.

How do I deactivate Amazon's Alexa again?

You can remove the "skill" at any time. Go to the Amazon Alexa App. You can also deactivate the Amazon Alexa function in the Bosch Smart Home App under Settings => Privacy => External accounts.

What features are available with 'Alexa'?

You can use Amazonas Alexa to control your room temperature, your smart plugs and your scenarios. Light and shutter control as well as scenarios including the alarm system are currently not possible.

Why can't I activate or deactivate my alarm system?

This has been intentionally implemented, because otherwise even potentially unwanted "guests" can deactivate your alarm system before entering a room with a simple "Alexa, deactivate the alarm system".

Why can't I control the devices immediately after integrating Amazons Alexa via voice control?

It can take up to 2 minutes before Amazon's Alexa can finally assign the device names to the corresponding devices. Please be patient.

Why is my room name not recognized?

Names for rooms and devices are best recognized if they consist of only one word. So study, instead of Max Mustermann's room. Amazon has trained language recognition on common names.

Amazon's Alexa can't find my device/ my scenario. What can I do? I don't know.

Please make sure that you name the device exactly as it was named in the Bosch Smart Home App (or renamed in the Amazon Alexa App). If you have added a new device/scenario, you will need to search for it in the Amazon Alexa app again. Only then can you operate it using voice control. Scenarios with alarm system not currently not possible to control with Amazon Alexa.
Alexa responds best to the following commands:

  • Alexa, turn on name.
  • Alexa, turn off name.
  • Alexa, set name to x percent.
  • Alexa, make my name lighter
  • Alexa, dimme the name.
  • Alexa, dim the name to x
  • Alexa, set name to x degrees.
  • Alexa, reduce name.
  • Alexa, reduce name by x degrees.
  • Alexa, raise name
  • Alexa, raise name x degrees.
  • Alexa, show name

Please activate the Philips Hue Skill in the Amazon Alexa App and search for new Smart Home devices. Then you can control your Philips Hue products.

How can I connect the lighting control with Amazon Alexa?

To use Amazon Alexa with your lighting controls, please make sure that the Bosch Smart Home Skill is enabled in your Alexa App. If not, you can search for Bosch Smart Home in the Amazon Alexa app under "Smart Home" -> "My Smart Home Skills" ->"Add Skill". In addition, the Smart Home App must also be able to integrate the devices via voice. Just say, "Alexa, find equipment."

How can I operate the roller shutters with Alexa?

With the following commands the roller shutters can be operated with Alexa:

  • "Alexa, set >roller shutter name< to xx%" e.g. "Alexa, set roller shutter kitchen to 50%"
  • "Alexa, raise >Roller shutter name< to xx%" e.g. "Alexa, raise Roller shutter kitchen to 50%"
